Pie crust 6 (Chris')
- 1 lb flour (plain)
- 4 oz shortening (broken into 0.5oz pieces or so)
- 3 oz butter (cold, broken into pieces)
- water (cold)
Place flour, shortening, and butter in a food processor; pulse until the shortening and butter have been integrated and the mixture looks grainy. Store in the fridge in an airtight container.
For a 9 inch crust, take out slightly less than 8oz and place in a mixing bowl. Add two or three teaspoons of water and start to stir it in until the mix comes together into a dough - add more water if it crumbles apart too easily, or more of the flour mix if it is too wet. Once you have a usable dough ball, roll it out as needed.
SJ Note 17 Nov 2014: This worked really well in our recent apple pie with the addition of 1 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
