Homemade Hamburger Helper
Ingredients
- 225 g ground beef
- 1/2 c chopped onion
- 400 g canned tomatoes
- 1/2 T ketchup
- 1/2 T brown sauce
- 2 T chopped green bell pepper
- 1 T chopped parsley
- 70 g pasta
- 5.25 oz cream of mushroom soup
- 3/4 c shredded cheddar cheese
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
Method
Brown ground beef. Drain all but 1 t grease from the skillet. Add the onion, tomatoes, ketchup, steak sauce, green pepper, and parsley. Simmer for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta. Combine pasta and ground beef mixture in a baking dish. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Gently spoon mushroom soup into mixture. Mix lightly, lifting from the bottom. Sprinkle 1/3 of the cheese into the mix and stir. Add the other 2/3 of the cheese on top.
Bake at 350F (Gas 4) for 30 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and browned.

SJ Note 21 Nov 2011: Upped the canned tomato in this (to a full can), and added fresh herbs; came out much tastier than usual. I think I added some other stuff, but I can't remember it now.
